Did some calculations tonight....some interesting stuff. Was thinking about my Salamence and if I wanted to be able to OHKO a Bisharp with Fire Blast.

0 SpA Mega Salamence Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 130-154 (92.1 - 109.2%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

I concluded I would need 100 SpecAtk EVs invested in order to OHKO it seeing how anything lower would not be 100% - as shown below with 100 EVs vs 96.

100 SpA Mega Salamence Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 142-168 (100.7 - 119.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
96 SpA Mega Salamence Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 140-166 (99.2 - 117.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

I then thought about what I would give up in power in terms of Attack stat...well let's just say I wouldn't be able to do a lot of things. I would have to run 156 ATK seeing how I do not want to give up any speed (speed tie hax vs another Salamence if I ever need it for my Draco Meteor!).

compared to

252 Atk Aerilate Mega Salamence Double-Edge vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Sylveon: 204-241 (101.4 - 119.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Aerilate Mega Salamence Double-Edge vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 157-186 (94 - 111.3%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

For most of everything else Salamence wants to OHKO with Double Edge, it gets the job done...but being able to OHKO Sylveon in that matchup is WAY more important than OHKO'ing a Bisharp.

In the end, it was a waste of time since:

1. I wouldn't want Salamence to match up versus Bisharp since Defiant shits on my Intimidate...so yeah I realized that after this next point.

2. I have other stuff on my team that can deal with Bisharp (Rotom-W outspeeds it specifically to apply WoW before it can attack; Heatran has Earth Power and Heat Wave; and lastly Hydreigon's Choice Specs boosted Earth Power OHKOs it every time). I would therefore not need to make my Salamence OHKO it with Fire Blast. Fire Blast is there for those pesky Ferrothorns (how dare you harm my Rotom-W!) and Scizors.


I did a bunch of other calculations but it's whatever. I was just refreshing my mind in order to remind myself of my team's power and flexibility so that I could play better with them this weekend.

Hmmm...now I just thought about using 188 Speed EVs to get my Salamence to 180 speed which outspeeds everything in the meta except for choice scarf Landorus-T.

180 speed just gets it over timid 252 Thundurus at 179...I guess I do have Clefable for the matchup versus Salamence but still...if I lose Clefable then I am in a bad spot. I think I still love the max speed.

Hmm after much debate here's what I think you should do:
Just say fk it to defenses put rest of EVs into HP, 196 speed to outspeed mega lucario, 252 atk full out blaze it then rest into hp (60)
